1794 1/2 C AU53 PCGS. B-9, C-9, R.2. There were only 81,600 pieces struck of the 1794 half cent, a coin that is a significant design type, this being the first year of issue for the Head Facing Right type. While outside the Condition Census, this is still an important coin in this grade. A bit softly struck over the highpoints, the surfaces are bright and show lovely medium brown patina with subtle undertones of blue present. A number of small abrasions are scattered (mostly) over the obverse.

1793 Chain 1C AMERI. VF20 PCGS. S-1, R.4. Apparently, the engraver laid out AMERICA last, and realized that the legend would appear unbalanced unless the nation's name was abbreviated. A splendidly detailed piece with slightly grainy, chocolate-brown surfaces and imposing eye appeal. Both sides are well centered an void of most of the normally seen, post-striking injuries so common to this issue. As future identifiers, a couple of crisscrossing marks are seen under close examination at the center of the reverse within the chain. An attractive example of this coveted rarity, the first Large Cent variety issued and the only die marriage with the AMERI. reverse.

1797 H10C 16 Stars XF45 PCGS. V-4, LM-2, R.4. The variety is confirmed by the outer berry on the left wreath being located between the N and I of UNITED. This attractive example comes from a later die state, with die clashing evident in the obverse fields, a small linear crack between stars 7 and 8 on the obverse, and a horizontal crack through E in UNITED on the reverse, with evidence of an additional crack through D perpendicular to the aforementioned crack faintly developing. Softly struck over the central devices, as nearly always, and naturally highlighted in golden and pastel blue shades. Varieties with 15, 16, and 13 stars were struck with 1797-dated dies; apparently the Mint decided mid-year it was impractical to crowd the obverse with stars to represent each newly admitted state and returned to 13 stars, which represent the original colonies. Population: 1 in 45, 21 finer (11/04).
