1815 25C E Counterstamp AU50 NGC. B-1, R.5. with the "E" counterstamp above Liberty's head. A certain number of 1825 quarters also exist with the E counterstamp, and both dates also exist with an "L" counterstamped above the head. Many hypotheses have been presented to explain these E and L counterstamped coins, however, none to date have been proven. Most recently, a plausible suggested links these coins to the Economite Hoard of silver coinage uncovered in western Pennsylvania. Given that many of these turned up in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio (Economy, PA is northwest of Pittsburgh and southeast of Youngstown, Ohio), this suggestion is as good as any yet proposed. Deep steel and brown color is accented by lighter silvery tan on the highpoints of the design. A very minor disturbance in the metal on the reverse is exactly opposite the counterstamp. (PCGS# 5321)

San Francisco Medal Struck Over a 1976-D Bicentennial Half Dollar MS66 NGC. The "Granite Lady" U.S. Mint Medal, listed as #751 on usmint.gov, is usually struck in bronze with a diameter of 1.5 inches. Presumably, a mint employee deliberately chose a Denver Mint Bicentennial Half as a planchet for the present medal. Kennedy's profile from the undertype looms over the center of the third San Francisco Mint, which was in operation from 1874 to 1937. A lustrous, brilliant, and unusual wrong planchet combination.
