1787 1C Fugio Cent, STATES UNITED, Cinquefoils MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. Newman 13-X, R.1. A beautiful example that presumably originated in the famous Bank of New York hoard, although most such pieces have toned brown. However, the present coin has ample brick-red, although the open areas are light brown. A sharply struck and problem-free piece that has the bold, overlapping obverse clashmarks from the reverse rings. Certified in a green label holder. Listed on page 83 of the 2007 Guide Book.

The date logotype was deeply impressed in the obverse die with the digit 7 especially bold and heavier than the other digits. The S mintmark was shallowly sunk into the reverse die, and appears faint in comparison to other varieties. Excellent surfaces display vibrant yellow-gold luster on both sides with swirling orange toning in the left obverse field. In a PCGS gold label holder. (PCGS# 70003)

The severely worn reverse die translates into poorly defined features, especially in the lines of the wheat stalks. A few light flecks are noted on each side. On the Type Two Buffalo nickel, FIVE CENTS is placed in a recessed area beneath the bison's feet, rather than on a raised "ground" area as seen on the Type One. Population: 40 in 67, 4 finer (2/07). A tiny spot of deep violet toning affects the shield, and hairlines are noted in the fields, but the extraordinary cameo effect makes this piece a winner. Whispers of electric-blue, lavender, and golden-tan toning gravitate to the margins. Well struck with pleasing luster. Some minor obverse handling marks define the grade. (PCGS# 6966)
