1866 3CS MS64 PCGS. The Mint struck 22,000 three cent silver pieces in 1866, but subsequent declines in the series' popularity lead to retirement with the 1873 (proof-only) issue. Mint State examples from 1866 are conditionally scarce. This delightful Choice Uncirculated piece exhibits frosty luster on semireflective fields that release stark, flashy contrast. Mostly brilliant surfaces reveal only a faint blue spot between UNITED and STATES. Abrasions are light and define the grade. Housed in a Generation 3.1 green label holder. (PCGS# 3686)
