1865 1C PR66 Red and Brown PCGS. This was the first year of full production with the new design with the L on the ribbon. Some 500 proofs were produced but far fewer are known today, especially in PR66 condition. Significant portions of deep olive-brown patina covers each side with flashy rings of mint red around the margins. Deeply reflective and very attractive. Population: 2 in 66, 0 finer (10/02).

1865 1C PR66 Red and Brown PCGS. Plain 5. The 1865 proof striking is scarce as an issue (just 500 pieces struck), and examples are verifiably rare in Premium Gem condition. The current coin is more red than brown, with copper-orange mirrored fields deepening to magenta at the obverse margins. Reddish-brown overtones cover the central devices. PCGS Population: 8 in 66 Red and Brown, 0 finer (6/15).

1865 1C PR 66 Red and Brown PCGS. It is very unusual to locate such an early date Indian cent in such a lofty grade as this piece. The surfaces are immaculate and the fields are very deeply mirrored. A touch of emerald-green patina is seen on the obverse while the reverse shows the only real brown that is evident on the coin. A rare opportunity. Population: 1 in 66, 0 finer (2/01). (PCGS# 2283)

1865 1C PR66 Red and Brown NGC. A flawlessly preserved specimen that features boldly struck devices. The fields are watery and flashy with smooth, glass-like surface texture, and are blazing gold with crimson streaks at the rims, fading to ruby in the centers. The central devices are lit by a pale turquoise cast, and a pool of deep amethyst and cerulean has collected in the left obverse field. Rare in this grade with NGC and PCGS having only certified 10 examples 66 in Red and Brown with none finer to date (7/04). (PCGS# 2283)
