Six Piece 1897 Proof Set PR65 to PR66 NGC. The set includes:
Cent PR65 Red and Brown. Light salmon-pink color dominates, with hints of lemon and orange hues along the borders. Many collectors would not hesitate to call this piece full Red in color. A well struck Gem, no contact can be discerned, although a few tiny carbon flecks are noted.
Nickel PR65. Lime, rose, apple-green, powder-blue, chestnut-gray, and gold colors endow this sharply struck and nicely mirrored Gem. This undisturbed specimen displays considerable aesthetic beauty, and no marks or carbon exist that appear to limit the grade.
Dime PR65 Cameo. While the obverse cameo contrast is undeniable, the reverse exhibits spectacularly frosted devices. A brilliant and lovely Gem, the proof mintage of 731 pieces is the lowest nineteenth century production of the type. (This statement is also true for the following Barber Quarter and Half Dollar.) A nearly invisible horizontal slide mark on the neck prevents technical perfection.
Quarter PR65 Ultra Cameo. Ice-white devices rise above the deeply mirrored fields. An untoned Gem with a penetrating strike and impressive eye appeal. A few tiny mint-made planchet flakes on the reverse and a pair of pinpoint marks on the portrait are barely worthy of mention.
Half Dollar PR66 Cameo. The radiant snow-white devices appear to merit an Ultra Cameo designation, but NGC has conservatively assessed this brilliant and immaculate premium Gem. The strike is not quite full on the right shield corner or the eagle's neck feathers, but the nearly all details of the design are fully delivered by the dies.
Morgan Dollar PR66 Cameo. This well struck premium Gem has a fully brilliant reverse, and the obverse exhibits faint apricot toning. Proof Cameo Gem Morgan Dollars are rare, impressive, and in great demand. A wispy vertical imperfection is concealed in the hair beneath the T in LIBERTY. Just 731 proofs were struck, ab (PCGS# 2379)

1897 Proof Set NGC Certified. This is a fabulous set of coins. Included are:

Cent 1C PR64 Red and Brown. Nicely mirrored in the fields, there is a significant amount of underlying mint red remaining on each side with a light accent of blue-brown patina intermixed.

Nickel PR66. The bone-white surfaces are only interrupted by a light dash of reddish-brown patina in the center of the reverse. Hairline-free and essentially pristine.

Dime PR67. Although not designated as such, the devices show a significant cameo contrast against the deeply mirrored fields. The light, almost untoned centers gradually turn golden around the rims with a slight bit of blue around the obverse periphery. A pristine example.

Quarter PR66. Deeply mirrored and essentially flawless, the surfaces are mostly brilliant with just the slightest hint of peripheral smoky-violet patina present. A wonderful type coin, or in this case, a cornerstone to this uniformly high grade proof set.

Half Dollar PR66 Cameo. Brilliant throughout and very deeply mirrored with starkly contrasting frost over the devices. Exceptionally attractive and not all that often seen with cameoed features.

Dollar PR66. Deeply mirrored in the fields with a light accent of mint frost on the devices. The surfaces are mostly brilliant but there is just the slightest accent of light, hazy rose colored patina on each side that deepens somewhat around the reverse periphery. Another exceptional, high grade coin in this one-of-a-kind proof set. (PCGS# 2379)

1897 1C PR68 Red and Brown PCGS. Beautiful cherry-red and mint-green toning appears over each side, in a variegated fashion. The fields are watery and deeply reflective, and the design elements are crisply defined by a razor-sharp strike. An awesome and conditionally rare Superb Gem, one of the few proof Indian cents ever to be graded at PR68 by PCGS, and one of only two 1897s to achieve the PR68 grade level (the other is a Cameo specimen). Population: 1 in 68, 0 finer (7/06).

1897 1C PR66 Red and Brown NGC. A narrow ring of lime-green frames the reddish-orange centers, which take on subtle brownish hues on the reverse. A razor sharp strike emboldens the design elements, further enhancing the magnificence of this gorgeous example. A couple of hardly noticeable abrasions on the Indian's cheek, and another on the lower neck, are the only marks revealed by the otherwise well preserved surfaces. (PCGS# 2379)
