1867 3CN PR67 NGC. Only 625 proofs were struck of this issue, which, of course, makes it considerably scarcer than the later proof issues. This and the other proofs from 1866 through 1869 have been overlooked and underappreciated for decades, and it appears they will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. This is an outstanding, nearly perfect Superb Gem. The sea-green fields are deeply mirrored, and contrast beautifully with the golden devices. A tiny nick on Liberty's cheek is the only noticeable flaw. Population: 3 in 67, 0 finer (2/04). (PCGS# 3763)

1867 PR 66 PCGS. Superb, black and white cameo contrast on the obverse. The reverse is more uniformly brilliant and softly struck on some of the lines in the Roman numerals. Both sides are essentially untoned except for some light spots of color on the outer rims. PCGS has graded only 6 PR 66s and none higher (6/95), thus this lovely coin currently ranks as one of the best known of the date. (PCGS# 3763)
