1855 Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-167, Pollock-193, R.4, PR 45 Corrosion Spot. Flying Eagle cent pattern in a large format, featuring a hooked-neck eagle on the obverse and ONE CENT in the center of the reverse surrounded by a thick laurel wreath. Struck in copper with a plain edge. Lightly worn surfaces with reddish-brown color, a large spot of corrosion is located just beneath the eagle's neck. (PCGS# 11709)

1896 Five-Cents, Judd-1770, Pollock-1987, R.6, PR 63. 77.92 grains. A shield with 13 stripes is depicted on the obverse. E PLURIBUS UNUM is above and the date below. Behind the shield are two crossed poles bearing a liberty cap and eagle. A scroll passing in front of the shield is inscribed LIBERTY. There are 13 stars at the border arranged 7 left and 6 right. The border is beaded on both sides. The denomination 5 CENTS is centered within a curved olive sprig on the reverse. Struck in copper-nickel alloy and perhaps with a smidgen of zinc, with a plain edge. A bright, lightly toned example of this very rarely seen pattern. Sharply defined throughout. (PCGS# 62224)

It is, however, instantly identifiable as a proof with its wide, square rims and still faintly reflective fields. Subtle violet and olive-green highlights are found on either side.

While this variety is supposed to have vines and bars on the edge, one is hard pressed to find any evidence of them. But with enough perseverance and imagination the viewer can locate faint traces of what must be bars and several indentations that could be called vines. (PCGS# 1347)
