1793 1/2 C AU 50 Porous. B-3, C-3, R.3. Despite a slightly rough texture, the crimson-brown surfaces are rather attractive for an early copper coin. The devices display pleasing overall definition that attests to the care with which the Philadelphia Mint stamped this coin. There are no unduly bothersome contact marks on either the obverse, reverse, or edge of this first-year half cent. Always popular among type collectors and early copper specialists alike. (PCGS# 1000)

1795 1/2 C Plain Edge XF 40 Corroded. No Pole. B-6a, C-6a, R.3. The obvious care with which this coin was produced suggests that it was struck on rolled copper planchets as opposed to cut down large cents or Talbot, Allum & Lee tokens. The corrosion is largely confined to two telltale areas of discoloration on the obverse, but the balance of the faces are free of any mentionable impairments. A suitable coin that should be important to budget minded copper collectors. (PCGS# 1018)

1797 1/2 C Plain Edge XF 40 Off-Center. B-1a, C-1, R.4. Easily attributed by the 1 in the date which is punched wholly above the final 1. Struck off-center on rolled copper stock left over from 1796. The glossy surfaces show numerous die cracks on the obverse indicating the B-1 die was at its end. Medium brown color overall, there are several contact marks visible on each side. (PCGS# 1036)

1793 1C Liberty Cap Fine 12 Porous, Smoothed. S-13, Low R.4. The porosity manifests itself through the rough, charcoal appearance of the reverse. The obverse, while nearly as dark, displays an unnaturally smooth appearance that betrays prior mishandling. All major features are sharp save for the central reverse. Despite its impairments, this is a relatively affordable survivor from an important year in large cent production. For accuracy, we call attention to a clip out of the planchet along the rim behind the pilleus cap. (PCGS# 1359)
