The reverse die was rusted at the time of striking, a diagnostic feature of this variety. The glossy-brown surfaces are minimally abraded with traces of mint luster around the well formed denticles. A rare variety, this specimen is moderately corroded on each side with tinges of charcoal color intermixed over the predominately chocolate-brown surfaces. The left side of the reverse and the bottom left edge of the obverse have nearly been obliterated by the corrosion, and the date is only faintly visible. Nevertheless, this variety is seldom seen in grades above Fine, and, although this example does not merit distinction as a Condition Census representative, its importance should be obvious to copper specialists. (PCGS# 1003)

1802/0 1/2 C Reverse of 1802 VF 20 Cleaned, Retoned. B-2, C-2, R.3. All of the 20,266 half cents produced in 1802 were struck from a single obverse die with the final digit in the date cut over a 0. The Reverse of 1800 variety is a legendary rarity, with an extant population that includes predominantly well worn and/or impaired examples. The present variety is also scarce, particularly above the Fine grade level. This is a dark, glossy-brown example with suitable eye appeal despite prior mishandling. There are no sizeable distractions, and the devices are well defined everywhere except over the centers. (PCGS# 1057)
