1936-S 50C Bay Bridge MS66 NGC. Well struck and essentially pristine, the only visible surface disturbance of any kind is a miniscule contact mark on the lower part of the bear's left front leg. The obverse is blanketed by deep, rich mauve-gray patina, while the fully pristine reverse exhibits lovely honey-gold color. A highly attractive and technically superior Gem. (PCGS# 9254)

1891 5C Nickel--Struck 10% Off Center--MS64 PCGS. Struck off center at 7 o'clock. STATES is close to the edge but complete, while the bottom portion of the 18 in the date is off the flan. A lustrous and well struck near-Gem with attractive pearl-gray patina and impressively preserved surfaces. While off center Liberty Nickels are not excessively rare, it is certainly unusual to encounter an example with the quality of the present coin.

1903 5C Nickel--Medallic Alignment--PR65 NGC. Nearly all U.S. coins are struck with the dies aligned 180 degrees, known as 'coin turn.' This has been the case since the Philadelphia Mint first produced regular issue coinage in 1793. Coin turn was intended for the 1903 Proof Nickels, and indeed the vast majority of the issue has this normal die alignment. A few, however, were struck with a die alignment of zero degrees, which is normally used only for the production of medals. The unusual alignment suits the devices, which are razor-sharp. An exquisitely preserved Gem with original golden-brown and lilac patina.

1919 MS Quarter--Struck 50% Off Center--XF45 PCGS. This is easily the most impressive Standing Liberty Quarter error that we have offered. Errors in this series are rare, and to find a coin this far off center is truly an important occasion for the specialist. The impression is off center just past 12 o'clock with the result that the date area is present. The devices are distended along the lower obverse border, but enough of the digits are discernible to identify the coin as a 1919. Furthermore, the mintmark area is clear, and if there were a mintmark present we believe that it would be easily recognizable. The surfaces are rather well preserved for the extent of wear with dove-gray toning that yields to champagne-gold undertones at direct angles. A pinscratch over the lower right obverse peripheral area is noted, but it is confined to the flan and does not interfere with those devices that are present. We are sure that a great many people will be following the bidding activity on this lot with great interest.
