1881-CC $1 MS67 PCGS. Among Carson City Mint Morgan dollars released by the GSA, the 1879 through 1881 issues are much scarcer than others. Although this piece is not designated as a GSA coin, it almost certainly is just such a piece. Both sides have intensely brilliant silver luster with frosty surfaces. Aside from a few miniscule ticks, the surfaces are pristine. PCGS has only certified three examples of this date in finer grades (10/06). (PCGS# 7126)

1893-S $1 AU50 PCGS. Hints of tan toning are present here and there, but this key date dollar is mostly untoned. Luster is obvious within Liberty's hair and the eagle's plumage, and the margins offer glimpses of satin iridescence. Close examination beneath a lens locates a few moderate marks on the portrait, although these do not distract given the AU50 grade. Some detail remains on the eagle's breast and on the hair curl above the ear. In short, this is a problem-free lightly worn example that provides an affordable alternative to the nearly unobtainable Mint State grade. The 1893-S has a mintage similar to the 1894, but the latter is much more plentiful in Uncirculated condition. (PCGS# 7226)

1894 $1 MS64 PCGS. Ex: Casper II. Except for the 1895 issues, the 1894 Philadelphia mint dollars have the lowest mintage of any from that mint. The 1894 is an important, high visibility issue in the Morgan dollar series as only 110,972 pieces were produced. This low mintage is undoubtedly responsible for much of the issue's charm and attraction to collectors. However, it is also an unquestioned condition rarity as well as an absolute rarity with high grade pieces seldom being offered. The devices show razor-sharp definition with complete hair detail over Liberty's ear and full feathers on the eagle's breast. The fields are somewhat reflective and the only marks of note are a small cluster between the eagle's right (facing) wing and the wreath. Lightly and evenly toned over each side. (PCGS# 7228)

1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Three Leaves--Cleaned, Scratched--ANACS. VG10 Details. B-5, BB-27, R.1. The variety is confirmed by a diagonal bar at the uppermost hair curl that points toward star 5, seven berries on the left branch and six on the right, and paired berries below first T of STATES. Light silver-gray surfaces reveal fine hairlines under magnification. Three nearly vertical linear marks on Liberty's portrait at first glance look like adjustment marks, but were apparently engraved with a sharp object. At any rate, they do not detract that much from the coin's appearance. (PCGS# 6852)
