Remnants of doubling on the date numerals is a highlight of this variety, although as the only die pair that struck proof 1868 Shield nickels, any example will exhibit this feature for collectors. 1868 5C Minor Variety, Misplaced Date, MS66 PCGS. Fletcher IIa reverse, star points between AM. What appears to be the foot of a 1 slightly protrudes from the left edge of the shield ball, although it is not as prominent as on the FS-312 Misplaced Date, Reverse IIb variety. This Reverse IIa Misplaced Date is unlisted in Cherrypickers' and is also unlisted in the NGC VarietyPlus tables. (PCGS# 3795)
