Description
1880 Half Eagle, PR62 Cameo
Low Mintage of 36 Proofs
1880 $5 PR62 Cameo PCGS. The 1880 half eagle business strike
were struck in a prodigious quantity exceeding 3.1 million coins, a
stark contrast to the tiny proof mintage for the year -- 36 coins.
This example, certified PR62 Cameo, displays rich, even reddish
color over each side. This piece is obviously a proof from the
depth of reflectivity in the fields, but a higher grade is defeated
by numerous small contact marks that appear, especially on the
obverse. The strike is sharp overall, even though a bit of
high-point definition is lacking in the center of each side.
Population: 1 in 62 Cameo, 1 finer (10/12).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28CH, PCGS# 88475, Greysheet# 9225)
Weight: 8.36 grams
