Description

1867 Nickel, Judd-566, PR62 NGC

1867 5C Five Cents, Judd-566, Pollock-627, Low R.6, PR62 NGC. The obverse features a bust of Liberty facing left, wearing a coronet, surrounded by the legend and date. The denomination is within a laurel wreath that is close to the edges on the reverse, with a tiny IN GOD WE TRUST above. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. This is one of many similar five cent patterns from 1867 and it is based on the contemporary three cent nickel design. Judd-566 features CENTS in straight rather than curved letters, and Liberty's coronet does not have a star. This is a moderately reflective piece that lacks complete highpoint detail (as often seen on patterns). The surfaces are bright and appear to have been cleaned at one time, with just the slightest bit of gray patina present around the margins.
