Description
Pleasing Toned 1919 Half, MS64
1919 50C MS64 PCGS. CAC. The 1919-P Walking Liberty half, with a mintage of only 962,000 pieces, has the lowest mintage of the three issues for the year, but the 1919-D and 1919-S are less often seen in Mint State despite their higher mintages. (One wonders if there were more collectors in the vicinity of the longstanding Philadelphia Mint at the time, a not unreasonable assumption.) As the Gem level is approached, however, all three issues become scarce. This near-Gem has much luster radiating from liberally toned surfaces that feature shades of russet, charcoal, and silver-gold. Only minor contact marks on the eagle's lower right (facing) leg appear to limit the grade. The strike is bold and pleasing.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24PY, PCGS# 6577, Greysheet# 6701)
