Description
German Emperor Wilhelm II and Queen Augusta Victoria
19th Century Wedding Anniversary Silver Medal
Silver Anniversary Medal of German Emperor Wilhelm II and
Augusta Victoria. Silver, 45 mm, 50.8 gm. Wilhelm II
(1859-1941) was the last German emperor and king of Prussia
"Deutscher Kaiser und König von Preußen," ruling both from
June 15, 1888, to Nov. 9, 1918. His first marriage, to Princess
Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein, was on Feb. 27, 1881. This
undated medal commemorates one of their wedding anniversaries,
although the style suggests the 1880s or 1890s. Obverse: conjoined
busts facing right with WILHELM D.K. KÖNIG V. PREUSSEN-AUGUSTE
VICTORIA D.K.K.V.PR, E. WEIGAND SC. at truncation. Reverse
five-line inscription, SEID FRÖHLICH / IN HOFFNUNG / GEDULDIG / IN
TRÜBSAL / HALTET AN / AM GEBET / ZUM EHEJUBILAUM-RÖMER C.12 V.12.
("Be joyful in hope, patient in trouble, continue to pray-Romans
12:12.") Beautiful proof surfaces with minor contact, pinkish-gray
and ice-blue iridescent toning on both sides. With original case of
issue.
