19th Century Wedding Anniversary Silver Medal

Silver Anniversary Medal of German Emperor Wilhelm II and Augusta Victoria. Silver, 45 mm, 50.8 gm. Wilhelm II (1859-1941) was the last German emperor and king of Prussia "Deutscher Kaiser und König von Preußen," ruling both from June 15, 1888, to Nov. 9, 1918. His first marriage, to Princess Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein, was on Feb. 27, 1881. This undated medal commemorates one of their wedding anniversaries, although the style suggests the 1880s or 1890s. Obverse: conjoined busts facing right with WILHELM D.K. KÖNIG V. PREUSSEN-AUGUSTE VICTORIA D.K.K.V.PR, E. WEIGAND SC. at truncation. Reverse five-line inscription, SEID FRÖHLICH / IN HOFFNUNG / GEDULDIG / IN TRÜBSAL / HALTET AN / AM GEBET / ZUM EHEJUBILAUM-RÖMER C.12 V.12. ("Be joyful in hope, patient in trouble, continue to pray-Romans 12:12.") Beautiful proof surfaces with minor contact, pinkish-gray and ice-blue iridescent toning on both sides. With original case of issue.
