Description
The Eliasberg 1913-D Half Dollar, MS66
1913-D 50C MS66 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Eliasberg. From the Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection, and called "possibly the very finest known" in that offering. Although it is a relatively plentiful date, all 1913 half dollars are elusive, regardless of its Mint. Only a little over 1 million half dollars were coined at all three mints combined. Only 534,000 pieces were coined in Denver during the year. The Eliasberg-Dale Friend specimen is boldly defined, with strong, almost complete detail right of the shield, and elsewhere. The surfaces are bright with silver luster and a full quota of mint frost. In the Eliasberg catalog, Dave Bowers wrote: "The connoisseur seeking to combine high numerical grade with excellent aesthetic quality may have to wait years for a coin of close comparable quality to appear." Population: 3 in 66, 0 finer (10/08).
Ex: Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr.; Eliasberg Estate (Bowers and Merena, 4/1997), lot 2130.
