Description

Choice Quality 1796 S-84 Liberty Cap

1796 1C Liberty Cap AU55 NGC. XF45 EAC. S-84, Die State III, R.3. The S-84 is one of the two most frequently encountered 1796 Cap cents, and it is probably the least difficult to locate in high grade. This is an exceptionally pleasing coin that shows just a trace of friction over the highpoints. A few tiny planchet voids are located on the neck of Liberty and several small marks are scattered at eye level on Liberty's face and in the right obverse field. The obverse also shows evidence of having been wiped. Well defined on each side, except for the E in CENT. Choice medium brown color with lighter tan on the reverse, faded from mint red.
