Description

Pleasing Low Grade 1801 NC-1 Cent

1801 1C AG3 NGC and EAC. NC-1, High R.5. The die state is difficult to determine as the key to such a determination involves examination of the crack above TES, and in this case that area is illegible due to wear. The strong clash mark outlining Liberty's bust on the reverse is characteristic of this variety. While other die varieties have similar clash marks, we are not aware of any examples of this variety without the clash mark, an important attribution characteristic. Attractive olive-brown color is accented by lighter tan undertones. The surfaces are very pleasing for the grade. Only about 35 examples of this variety are known.
