Description
Sparkling Gem 1902-O Quarter, Ex: Eliasberg Collection
1902-O 25C MS66 PCGS. Ex: Eliasberg. One of the most attractive '02-O quarters that we have ever handled, this original Gem is only surpassed in technical quality by the NGC MS 67 example that we offered as lot 7291 in our June 2000 Long Beach Sale. The silver-gray surfaces do not show a hint of color and are essentially mark-free with razor sharp striking detail. NGC and PCGS combined report only six coins in MS66 with two finer (6/04).Ex: Purchased by J. M. Clapp directly from the New Orleans Mint (October, 1902); John H. Clapp; Clapp estate; Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. (1942); Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection (Bowers & Merena, 4/97), lot 1577, where it realized $5,940; unknown intermediaries; Long Beach Signature Sale (Heritage, 9/03), lot 6709, which realized $16,100.
