Historic PR63 1829 Half Dollar
The Unique O-111a Proof

1829 50C PR63 NGC. CAC. O-111a, Unique as a Proof. While other die pairs are known for the 1829 half dollar as a proof, including the O-107, O-108, and O-112, the O-111a has the unusual distinction of being struck after many, if not all, of the circulation-strike coins produced from its die pair. Both dies show evidence of wear; the obverse stars are drawn toward the rims, while the first and last letters of AMERICA are filled at the top. Nonetheless, this is a no-questions proof with intense, slightly flawed mirrors around softly frosted devices. Color is mostly gold with blushes of rose and elements of blue at the margins.
