1871 Liberty Round Dollar, BG-1204, MS62
Rare 'Nouizillet Head' Type
1871 $1 Liberty Round 1 Dollar, BG-1204, High R.5, MS62
PCGS. Robert B. Gray & Co. (1858-71), makers of this piece with
mark G on the obverse, were the successors of Antoine Louis
Nouizillet. This variety has the so-called "Nouizillet Head,"
single bun, 13 stars obverse, wreath on reverse with double bow.
This MS62 piece shows prooflike surfaces with deep iridescent
purple, blue, and lilac, including traces of a fingerprint on the
obverse. There are no mentionable marks but the centers are notably
soft on each side, typical for the issue. Population: 10 in 62, 4
