Description

Rare 1841 Large Cent, PR65 Red and Brown NGC

1841 1C PR65 Red and Brown NGC. This coin was previously offered as lot 6498 in our May 2000 Central States Signature Sale, where it was cataloged as: "Six examples of this rare, early proof issue surfaced in the 1903 Eavenson Sale (Chapman, 4/03) as part of a Mint official's collection. While it is unknown whether or not the present piece owes its existence to this collection, we are positive that it is among the finest examples available to today's collector. The surfaces exhibit mottled crimson-brown patina and considerable remaining luster. The central features are boldly defined and there are no distracting features. A small contact mark in the obverse field to the right of the date is, however, important for pedigree purposes." Population: 1 in 65 Red and Brown, only 1 finer (4/02).
