Description
1910-S Half Eagle, Gem BU
1910-S MS 65 NGC. An exceptionally elusive five dollar Indian in gem condition, David Akers estimates that there may be as many as ten MS 65 or better pieces known--a number that requires great patience on the part of a collector who wishes to acquire one of these seldom-offered rarities. Easily the most visually arresting feature of this coin is its soft, frosted mint luster. It gently rolls around the surfaces as the coin is tilted beneath a light and shimmers beneath an even layer of coppery-gold patina that covers both sides. Abrasions are so few that they could almost be individually listed. The only ones, however, that might be used for future identification purposes are a small cluster in the left obverse field just left of the Indian's nose. Also fully struck in all areas, and quite unusual as such, as most 1910-S fives are weakly defined. This is the single finest example thus far certified by NGC (8/98).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28DM, PCGS# 8519, Greysheet# 9323)
Weight: 8.36 grams
