Description

1837 1C Feuchtwanger Cent MS64 NGC. Dies 3-E, R.3. Dr. Feuchtwanger was desirous of introducing his "German Silver" composition (which contained no actual silver) to the coinage of a one-cent piece, presumably to cut down on production cost. The composition was an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc. This example is a Choice Mint State specimen with lustrous nickel-gray surfaces.(#20001)
