Description
Rare 1820 North West Brass Token, Fine 12
1820 North West Brass Token Fine 12 PCGS. The North West token circulated with the value of one beaver pelt in what is now Oregon, which at the time was occupied primarily by Native Americans and trappers. A number were found in the Umpqua River Valley, and this long-dispersed group comprises most known examples. This brassy olive-green piece is holed at 12 o'clock, as are nearly all known examples. The reverse is moderately granular. The obverse field appears smooth despite a cluster of thin marks near 5 o'clock. Listed on page 74 of the 2009 Guide Book.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2B6H, PCGS# 952, Greysheet# 213350)
