Heritage Realizes Over $6 Million in May Long Beach Sales

Dallas, Texas: Heritage, the official auctioneer of the May 2003 Long Beach Coin Expo, realized over $6 million total with its U.S., World, and Ancients Signature Sales and a Bullet Sale held between May 29 and June 2. Conducted in four sessions, the U.S. Signature Sale had an unusually strong sell through rate of 91.1%, which will climb even further as bidders compete for Post-Auction BargainsTM currently posted at

“Key date Morgan Dollars brought exceptional results,” noted Heritage President Greg Rohan. “An 1889-CC Dollar graded MS63 by PCGS achieved $23,575. A conditionally rare 1892-S Dollar, certified by PCGS as MS62, went to an internet bidder for $48,300. An 1893-S Dollar, MS61 PCGS, sold to the floor for a whopping $69,000. A proof-only 1895 Dollar, graded PR66 by NGC, brought $56,350.”

Rohan continued, “One of the most surprising results from the sale, however, was for a 1912-S Cent that was certified MS65 Red by PCGS. The Coin Dealer Newsletter suggests a price of $1,300, but it sold for a spectacular $27,600. A unique 1854-O with Arrows Seated Half, formerly owned by Reed Hawn and graded MS63 Specimen by NGC, realized $14,950. A 1917 Nickel encapsulated by PCGS as MS67 generated $12,650.”

The anchor consignments for the Signature Sale included the John Dabbert Collection of Hard Times and Civil War tokens, the Philip Kaufman Collection of spectacularly toned Seated proofs, the CEO Morgan Dollar PCGS Registry Set, and diverse offerings from the Ron Julian estate, noted attorney Brian Loncar, and the extraordinary Trane Collection. The highlight of the Heritage World Coin Auction Signature Sale was lot 11157, the unique Specimen 1888 Newfoundland Half Dollar, SP64 PCGS, which achieved $29,900.
