Description

Extremely Rare 1822 N-14 Cent, VG Details

1822 N-14 1C --Damaged, Corroded--NCS. VG Details. N-14, Low R.7. A stopper in a complete variety collection of middle date large cents. N-14 is identified by the position of the leaf tip below the left base of the F in OF, entirely left of the upright. This example has peripheral areas of lavender verdigris and distributed small pits. A scratch affects ONE and accounts for the "Damaged" designation.
Just nine examples of 1822 N-14 are known today. Wes Rasmussen is credited with discovery of the variety. He purchased the first example unattributed at the 1983 FUN convention, and it remains the finest known example with a grade of Fine 12. The coin traded hands a few times until Rasmussen reacquired it in 1996, and it recently appeared in our January 2005 sale of his collection. The other known examples all grade from AG to VG. MRB AG3.
Heritage is pleased to offer this 1822 N-14 cent through the mutual agreement of its co-consignors.
