Medallic Art Co. Hawaii Statehood Medal
Serial #11, 50 or So in Gold, MS67 NGC

Three-Piece NGC-Certified Set of Medallic Art Co. Hawaii Statehood Medals. Set #11, all items 63.5 mm in diameter. The centerpiece of the lot is the gold medal MS67 NGC, 216.3 gm of .900 fine gold, one of approximately 50 pieces sold out of an authorization of only 100 items; not all of these survive today, as some were melted down during the run-up in gold prices during the late 1970s and 1980. The gold medal and sterling silver medal MS66 NGC both have the serial number "11" on the edge; the bronze medal MS65 NGC does not. The gold medal originally was offered for $850 and the silver medal $30, sizable sums at the time of Hawaii's statehood; the bronze medal, by contrast, cost a mere $4 and was produced far more heavily. Offered with a hard plastic case where these NGC-certified pieces formerly were displayed, though no paperwork is present.
