Description

1925 Thick Planchet Norse Medal, MS66+
One of Two at PCGS, Impeccable Preservation

1925 Medal Norse Silver Medal, Thick Planchet MS66+ PCGS. CAC. The Norse silver medals of the Thick Planchet variant were struck in an amount nearly six times larger than the Thin Planchet silver pieces -- although Anthony Swiatek has written that 2,000 may have been later melted at the Mint. Even if true, that would leave 31,750 pieces for the Thick compared to the much-rarer Thin medals at 6,000 struck. In any case, this Thick Planchet medal is one of only two such at PCGS, an example of stunning quality. Most of each side is rose-gray, impeccably preserved, and shows a crescent of amber-honey rim patina. For the many collectors who would like to obtain a single Norse silver medal for type purposes, this would make an excellent choice. Population: 43 in 66 (2 in 66+), 1 finer. CAC: 23 in 66, 1 finer (3/16).
