Description

Important 1794 S-47 Cent, AU50
Condition Census

1794 1C Head of 1794, S-47, B-39, R.4, AU50 PCGS. The obverse die is the same die that is found on the iconic Starred Reverse cent. This scarce S-47 die pair has a unique reverse that appears nowhere else in the early cent series. The glossy light chocolate-brown surfaces exhibit a few insignificant contact marks, with a low area near the bottom hair curls. Otherwise, this lovely cent is virtually flawless for the grade. Del Bland grades the coin a conservative VF20 and tied for seventh finest in his list. In our opinion, VF25 and tied for third finest known is appropriate. Our EAC grade VF25.
Purchased unattributed in a date set at a local household goods auction; Douglas F. Bird (4/2008); Edward F. Leitner (Goldberg Coins, 1/2015), lot 255; Dr. Charles Link.
