Description
1809 C-4, B-1 Half Cent, MS61 Brown
Recut 0 in Date
So-Called 'Circle in 0' Variety
1809 1/2 C Small o Inside 0, C-4, B-1, R.3, MS61 Brown PCGS.
Manley Die State 1.0, the usual die state with repunching visible
on stars 3, 6, and 10. The engraver chose the wrong punch for the 0
in the date, perhaps using a punch intended for a dime die. The
blunder was quickly detected and the proper size 0 was then punched
in the die, creating this popular Guide Book listed variety.
Luster remains on both sides with walnut-brown patina on the
obverse exhibiting traces of tan along the right-side border. The
reverse is mostly golden-tan with splashes of darker brown. An
exceptional, eye-appealing example. Our EAC grade MS60.Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 35230, Base PCGS# 1129, GSID# 80905)
