Description

1872 Seated Quarter, MS65
Major Rarity at This Grade Level

1872 25C MS65 PCGS. Briggs 2-B. Brassy gold patina displays a freckling of blue overtones with prooflike fields on both sides. The issue is scarce in all Mint State grades, but especially so in Gem or finer condition, where the issue is better described as rare. Conceivably, much of the 182,000-piece mintage was melted in 1873, when the Arrows weight change took place. An exceptional example of an overlooked date, with just one piece finer at PCGS. Population: 2 in 65, 1 finer (3/17).(Registry values: P4)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23UR, PCGS# 5481, GSID# 5143)

Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
Weight: 6.22 grams
ASW: 0.17998oz
