    1844 Dollar, Choice AU
    Attractive Original Patina

1844 $1 AU55 PCGS. CAC. OC-1, R.2. Seated dollar experts Dick Osburn and Brian Cushing explain that the "1844 is a desirable date in the Liberty Seated Dollar series, not only because of its relatively low mintage but also because of its interesting obverse die, which is doubled and displays a misplaced 18 in the gown." Each side is attractively and originally toned in violet and gray patina. A touch of friction occurs on the knee and wingtips. About 5% of the 20,000 coin-mintage is believed extant.(Registry values: N991)
