Description

1794 S-37, B-24 Cent, VF20
Tied for Seventh Finest Known

1794 1C Head of 1794, S-37, B-24, R.6, VF20 PCGS. The Steigerwalt Variety and a great rarity in the Sheldon numbered series. There are currently 19 examples known, and 10 of those grade less than VG8 per EAC grading interpretations. This piece is listed as VG10 and tied for the seventh finest in Del Bland's Condition Census available at www.1794largecents.com. We agree with Bland's assessment that this piece has the sharpness of Fine 15 with numerous handling marks, and we note that those handling marks on both sides of this medium brown cent are trivial in nature. There is a minuscule edge dent below the 7, and a small mark in the field over Liberty's nose that serve to identify this example. Our EAC grade VG10.
Ex: Denis Loring (1/1983); Jack H. Robinson; Richard V. Punchard; Tom Morley (9/12/1991); Robinson S. Brown, Jr. (Superior, 1/1996), lot 53; Larry Briggs; to the present consignor.
From The Loma Linda Collection, Part II.
