    Description

    1943 FS-103 Quarter, MS66
    Doubled Die Obverse
    The Finest Attributed at PCGS

1943 25C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-103, MS66 PCGS. CAC. There are three doubled die varieties known for the 1943 Washington quarters, and the PCGS overall population is approximately the same for all three of those varieties. Just over 30 of each are PCGS-certified in all grades. What sets FS-103 apart, aside from being Guide Book-listed, is that only three of the attributed coins at PCGS are in Mint State, and of those three, the present example is the finest by a margin of two points. There are three finer doubled die coins reported at PCGS, two of which are attributed as FS-102, and one of which is unattributed (1/18). Doubling is evident on the date and all lettering, and is especially visible on IN GOD WE TRUST. This Premium Gem has frosty silver luster and hints of champagne toning on the obverse, with a brilliant, untoned reverse. A prime Registry Set candidate and arguably the most important Washington quarter offering in this sale.
