    Description

    1850 Large Date Eagle, MS63
    One Finer Example Extant
    Exceptional All-Around Quality

1850 $10 Large Date MS63 PCGS. CAC. The more frequently encountered of the two date varieties, but still a scarcer issue and one that is rarely found any finer than AU, let alone in Select Uncirculated condition. This is one of the finest examples certified by either of the major grading services and was at one time the sole finest graded. Today, a single MS64 PCGS coin with CAC approval is higher.

The motifs on each side are a bit softly struck, but that is trivial relative to the exceptional overall appearance. The fields show evidence of having been struck from polished dies, imparting a bright semiprooflike sheen that is eminently attractive. There are a few small blemishes that identify this coin: A tiny spot is noted over the right side of the 8 in the date and another is seen in the field in front of the coronet. On the reverse, small spots are located below the A in STATES, in front of the eagle's beak, below the dot to the right of TEN D., and another in the right field out from the E in AMERICA. A visually stunning coin of great importance to the specialist. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 2 in 63 (1 in 63+), 1 finer. CAC: 2 in 63, 1 finer (1/18).
Ex: Herman Halpern Collection (Stack's, 5/89), lot 209; Warren Miller Collection (Heritage, 10/1995), lot 6269.
From The Admiral Collection. (Registry values: N7079)
