    Description

    1853/'2' Eagle, FS-301, MS62
    Finest Example of the Variety

1853/'2' $10 FS-301 MS62 NGC. High-grade eagles from this period are notoriously difficult to locate. While the 1853 is no exception, there are more MS60 and MS61 survivors than for most other issues. As with the double eagles produced for this year, the 1853 ten dollar features a variety with two lines in the lower loop of the 3 widely accepted as being part of an underdigit 2. Recently, that theory has come under scrutiny. Nevertheless, it remains a popular with collectors. This happens to be the sole finest 1853/'2' eagle certified at either NGC or PCGS.

Coruscating mint luster washes over each side. A peach-gold hue colors well-preserved surfaces that have area of moderate chatter in the upper reverse field. Another identifying mark is noted above the 8 in the date. Census: 1 in 62, 0 finer (1/18).

    Weight: 16.72 grams
