    Description

    1871 Liberty Head Ten, MS60
    Only Mint State Example Known
    Elusive Philadelphia Emission

1871 $10 MS60 PCGS. This decade is notoriously challenging given the string of low-mintage Philadelphia issues. Only 1,790 eagles were struck at the Mint in 1871. PCGS and NGC have graded just over 100 survivors, mostly in XF to mid-AU grades. This is the single finest representative at both services combined and the only known example in Mint State.

This piece was described in 2000 as a "bright and lustrous honey gold specimen with warm rose highlights." Semiprooflikeness is evident in the fields. Marks on Liberty's forecurls and on the top of the head serve to identify this important Condition Census example. Population: 1 in 60, 0 finer (1/18).
Ex: Lindesmith Collection (Bowers and Merena, 3/2000), lot 2446, which realized $14,375.
    From The Admiral Collection. (Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 264W, PCGS# 8660)
