    1885 Ten Dollar, MS66
    Tied for Finest
    Extraordinary Quality

1885 $10 MS66 NGC. CAC. Produced from 1838-1907, the Liberty eagle series witnessed the production of numerous scarce and rare issues. With an original mintage of 253,527 pieces, the 1885 does not seem like an especially noteworthy date. Indeed, examples of this delivery are easily obtainable in the circulated and average Mint State grades. Above the MS64 grade level, however, this issue becomes extremely rare.

An extraordinary coin regardless of date or Mint, both sides are thickly frosted with a pristine, reddish-gold sheen. There are a few interesting peripheral cracks near the lower reverse rim, but the dies were more than capable of striking every feature to the fullest. Advanced gold collectors would be wise to take advantage of the fleeting opportunity that this lot represents. Census: 2 in 66, 0 finer. CAC: 1 in 66, 0 finer (1/18).
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2001), lot 8292.
