Charles III 8 Reales 1786 So-DA AU Details (Cleaned) NGC, Santiago mint, KM31, Elizondo-35, Cal-1222. A challenging date in any condition as portrait 8 Reales of any ruler are generally scarce at best and virtually unattainable for certain dates within the Charles III series. The current example offers a smoky, charcoal patina and an intriguing die break that runs from 1 o'clock on the obverse rim to Charles's forehead, revealing a compelling visual character. Despite the noted cleaning, which must have occurred long ago, this remains among the toughest dates within the Chilean series and will be hotly contest when brought to auction.Ex.
