Ferdinand VII 8 Reales 1810 So-FJ MS63 NGC, Santiago mint, KM75, Elizondo-66, Cal-1403, Cay-15825. Military Bust type. The 1810 and 1811 "military" types differ from the earlier issues of 1808 and 1809 with the addition of a laureate wreath that crowns Ferdinand's head. Though Military Bust emissions appear on the market from time to time, they seldom--if ever--possess the kind of staggering beauty of the two offerings in this sale. The high points on this specimen remain fully intact, as seen in the waves of Ferdinand's hair and the details on the crowned shield, which can often evince signs of friction, even in high-grade examples. The glossy surfaces reveal a current of mauve that beautifies the fields while drops of champagne illuminate portions of the periphery. This piece shares the top spot on the NGC census with the next lot of this sale while PCGS has not certified a single Mint State example.Ex. Garcia Collection
