Mexico: Sombrerete. Ferdinand VII 8 Reales 1811 AU53 NGC,...
Description
Sombrerete. Ferdinand VII 8 Reales 1811 AU53 NGC, KM176, Cal-1425. Bearing the name of General Fernando Vargas, coins from the short-lived mint at Sombrerete remain in demand among War of Independence enthusiasts. While we've handled our fair share of struck examples, those of the punch type are especially scarce, with only a single at our auctions in the last decade. The originality of the surfaces and the quality of the punches on this example are unlikely to be bested anytime soon. This is the only piece at either major grading service to earn a home in a holder above XF45 and stands as the sole finest across both dates of the punch type.Ex.
