Description

Central American Republic gold 8 Escudos 1828 CR-F AU50 PCGS, San Jose mint, KM17, Fr-1 (Costa Rica), Onza-1746 (Rare). Mintage: 5,302. Blessed with a pleasing gold patina and well struck on a broad planchet. The first date of this very sought after type, long considered as one of the classic designs in the Latin American republican series. Although this is the more available date, relatively speaking, it is also usually better struck and free from the planchet problems that seem to plague later issues. This was a coin already in demand when we last offered it in 2014 and since then demand has increased manyfold. Collectors looking to secure a historically pivotal gold type with outstanding provenance need look no further than this fantastic offering.
