France: Louis XIV gold "Trade in Aquitaine" Medal 1706 AU50 PCGS,...
Description
Louis XIV gold "Trade in Aquitaine" Medal 1706 AU50 PCGS, Carde-cf. 401 (With engraver name). 41mm. 41.77gm. LUDOVICUS MAGNUS REX CHRISTIANISSIMUS, Head right // COMMERCIUM AQUITANICUM Hermes with caduceus and pouch leading Bacchic figure away from city harbor; in exergue IX VIRI BURDIGALENSES / COMMERCIIS REGUNDIS / 1706. Although minor contact marks may have tempered the grade, they in no way detract from the outstanding visual appeal of this piece. Truly an elusive Medal whose desirability is elevated when one considers the scarcity of the type. The only other example known to exist today was from the M. Carde Collection and was described by A. Evrard de Fayolle in 1900. Additionally, the engraver's name is often found below the bust; however, this medal lacks any inscription in that location, though it is likely that the engraver was Jean Mauger.Metal: Gold
