Description
Resplendent Bird of Paradise Near-Gem 20 Mark
German Colony. Wilhelm II gold 20 Mark 1895-A MS64 PCGS,
Berlin mint, KM9, J-709, D&S-385, Fr-1 (German New Guinea).
Mintage: 1,500 (for both Proof and Business Strikes). An iconic
emission utilizing the splendid original Bird of Paradise
numismatic design. Both incredibly rare in terms of mintage, and
incredibly desirable from an aesthetic and technical standpoint,
this is a noteworthy offering that will command attention from
collectors worldwide. Seen in both Proof and Business strike
format, the current near-Gem masterpiece falls among the latter,
certainly Prooflike in its brilliance, but with enough satin
qualities to differentiate. Sheathed in a light original skin, this
piece has acquired caramel and amber tones throughout its
celebrated life; all-in-all a wonderful coin that we are proud to
place in a new collection.Ex. Heritage Auction 3123 (May 2025, Lot 30088)
