Elusive Overdate 5 Guineas
Charles II gold 5 Guineas 1683/2 AU50 NGC, KM444.1, Fr-281,
S-3331. TRICESIMO QVINTO edge. An elusive overdate type, unlisted
in Krause, and one of the more difficult in this 5 Guinea series,
especially this fine, with only a single specimen graded higher at
NGC. A decent strike throughout minus a single area in the reverse
arms leads to a pleasing view of the antique-gold surfaces, which
are invigorated by burnt-orange shadowing that resides in the
crevices of the devices and legends. This is a date seldom found so
respectable, or even at all and surely headed for a specialist's
cabinet.Metal: Gold
