Great Britain: James II gold 5 Guineas 1688 MS61 NGC,...
Description
Alluring 5 Guineas in Mint State
James II gold 5 Guineas 1688 MS61 NGC, Tower mint, KM460.1,
S-3397A, Fr-292. QVARTO edge. Second laureate bust. Only three
years of the substantial 5 Guinea issue were produced under James
II before his abdication in 1688, leaving a small range of dates
for collectors to choose from. Incredibly scarce, particularly in
Mint State, where only three pieces reside, including this
marvelous, autumnal gold specimen. Light die rust is evident in the
strike residue, particularly around the date, though the bust and
reverse shields survive in wonderful detail. A seminal type worthy
of serious consideration by advanced gold Crown collectors.Metal: Gold
Diameter: 37.00mm
Weight: 41.75g
AGW: 1.2308oz
