Great Britain: William & Mary gold 5 Guineas 1693 AU53 NGC,...
Description
Captivating William & Mary 5 Guineas
William & Mary gold 5 Guineas 1693 AU53 NGC, KM479.1,
S-3422, Fr-299. QVINTO edge. One of the most recognizable
jugate-bust engravings in all of European numismatics, the William
& Mary 5 Guineas is an authentic piece of history from a period of
enormous transformation in England, beginning with the passage of
the Bill of Rights in 1689 that blazed the path for constitutional
government. Coins from the couple's rule are very collectable, with
the large-format 5 Guineas the most desirable. A type prone to
shallow strikes, the devices on this example protrude more boldly
than on some higher-graded pieces, with the reverse details
surviving in a state more in line with a mid to high-AU grade
assignment. Well positioned to attract a broad base of buyers
looking to avoid a Mint State premium while still acquiring an
outstanding example.Metal: Gold
